Denver Police to clamp down on expired license plates

Jul 5, 2024, 9:00 AM

If you’re like us, you notice a lot of cars driving around the Denver metro area with expired tags. This hurts everyone as the counties and state are losing out on revenue.

The Denver Police Department (DPD) has announced that they will be conducting a crackdown on drivers with expired registrations, starting from Monday, July 15 to August 15.

Drivers who fail to renew their registrations risk getting pulled over and receiving a $95 citation, in addition to having to pay registration and renewal fees.

It is mandatory for Denver residents to register newly acquired vehicles in person at a DMV office in the city, while registration renewals can be completed online or at a kiosk.

Earlier this year, Aurora and Lakewood police also targeted drivers with expired plates and other registration violations, resulting in hundreds of citations being issued.

If you’re expired, now is the time to register your car.
