How young is too young to see a scary movie?
65% of Americans saw their first horror flick before they turned 11, and 68% said they enjoyed watching scary movies as kids. 73% of people still love scary movies.
On average we will watch 5 scary movies this Halloween season. As adults, we prefer to watch supernatural and paranormal movies (43%), along with psychological thrillers (40%) and slasher flicks (30%). I used to love Halloween movies when I was a kid. It was when I became an adult that I no longer liked them because I knew how real they could be. I no longer liked swimming in the lake at night and every noise and bump in the night is a predator. I have been ruined.
The survey of 2,000 adults also found that 71% of respondents are likely to snack while watching a horror film. Popcorn is our favorite movie snack. 7 in 10 of us eat a halloween candy bowl during the movie and the bowl is empty on average 43 minutes into the movie.
In fact, 34% of “gore hounds”, viewers who pick movies with the most bloody scenes, prefer gummy Halloween candy. “Many respondents (23%) say that their favorite Halloween tradition is sharing their favorite parts of the holiday that they enjoyed as a child with their family today,” Teruhiro Kawabe of Morinaga America, Inc. said. “The Halloween season can bring families together with movies, traditions, candy and more.”
