Experts predict timing of first measurable snow fall in Colorado

Ready or not, winter is coming! So, they are predicting when the first measurable snow fall will happen in Colorado (of course it is right before Halloween…).
According to our friends at 9NEWS…late October is looking good.
“The mountains have already seen their first dustings of snow of the fall season, but here in Denver, we haven’t even come close to hitting the freezing mark yet. The average first measurable snow date in Denver is Oct. 18. That’s based on more than 140 years of official climate records in Denver.”
Ok, so mountains have already had a tiny taste. What about the Denver metro?

“The official outlook from the Climate Prediction Center calls for higher-than-average odds for both a warmer and drier than average fall. Long-term models aren’t showing much potential for snow outside of the mountains either. Plus, throw in our recent trend toward later first snows than average, and there’s plenty of science to back up our hunch that we’ll be trending a bit later on our first snow this year in Denver and around the metro area.”
Let it snow! So, can we start playing Christmas music at KOSI 101.1 then? I say, let’s do it!
