What’s Up, Colorado! Fry bread, glowing lanterns and opera houses

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, Colorado is showing off (in the best way). Here are a few can’t-miss events…quick, easy and totally worth putting on the calendar!

Denver March Powwow celebrates 50 years 

This is a Colorado tradition, and it’s back at the Denver Coliseum Friday through Sunday. The 50th annual Denver March Powwow is open to everyone, and it’s a beautiful way to experience Native culture through singing, dancing, storytelling, arts and crafts….and yes, fry bread, too. Many tribes will be represented, and the energy in that building is something you feel in your chest. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at AXS.com. 

Glowing Wild is back at Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance 

If you want a family night that feels a little magical, Glowing Wild is returning for year two and it runs through May 10. You’ll “travel the world” in one evening with 60 illuminated scenes and 175 new larger-than-life lantern sculptures…all handcrafted by Chinese artisans. It’s colorful, creative and such a fun way to do the zoo after dark. Tickets are at DenverZoo.org.    

Family Day at the Opera opens the Ellie to all ages 

Families, first-time visitors and opera fans can explore the Ellie Caulkins Opera House during Family Day at the Opera, a daylong open house where you can come and go as you like. The schedule includes abridged performances of “The Pirates of Penzance” at 10:30 a.m. and “Romeo & Juliet” at 1 p.m., plus cast meet-and-greets, a prop “petting zoo,” on-stage show-and-tell and lobby activities. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish – including a $0 option – so every family can experience the joy of opera.
