Wendy’s has officially entered its emo era.
The fast-food chain released a new six-song album called “Songs to Listen to in the Wendy’s Parking Lot,” featuring several vocalists from the emo music scene. And yes, that is the actual title. Honestly, it sounds like something my teenager would put on after I say no to Starbucks.
The album was produced by Matt Squire, who has worked with Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, One Direction, Selena Gomez and Panic! at the Disco. So, weirdly, this is not some half-frozen Frosty situation. There are actual credentials here.
To promote the project, Wendy’s also gave its famous mascot a full emo makeover, swapping the smile and red hair for side-swept bangs, black eyeliner and black hair bows.
When one Instagram user commented that it was “just a phase,” Wendy’s replied, “IT’S NOT A PHASE.”
Of course they did.
The track list includes:
“She Said She Didn’t Want Fries” featuring Matty Mullins and Memphis May Fire
“Salt in the Wound” featuring Chloe Kinnon
“I Miss the Sunroom” featuring Shane Told
“The Best Combo Meal on the Worst Night of My Life” featuring Beau Bokan
“It’s Not a Phase, It’s a 10pc” featuring Derek DiScanio
“My Frosty’s Funeral” featuring Kat Leon
No word yet on whether crying in a Wendy’s parking lot now comes with a combo upgrade, but honestly, this may be the most emotionally honest thing fast food has done in years.
