Wave of store closures hits Walgreens, including three in Colorado.
In July 2024, there were over 10,000 Walgreens stores in America, and Colorado had slightly more than 50. Nevertheless, the number of locations in Colorado will decrease by three due to the closure of “underperforming” stores. The exact number of jobs that will be lost is uncertain, but there will certainly be significant vacancies left behind. Walgreens has hinted at closing several stores due to financial difficulties. In a recent earnings call, CEO Tim Wentworth said, “We are at a point where the current pharmacy model is not sustainable and the challenges in our operating environment require, we approach the market differently,”
He added, “Approximately 25% of Walgreens stores are not contributing to our long-term strategy. We’re finalizing an optimization program that we expect will include closing a significant portion of these locations over the next three years. We are also taking a series of actions and making investments to enhance the customer and patient experience.”
Here are the three of stores in Colorado that will be closing.
- 3067 South Sheridan, Denver.
- Foothills Hospital, Boulder.
- 1041 Main, Longmont.
Traffic Alert: Ramp to Southbound I-25 from Broadway is closed.
