Today is LOVEland Colorado’s busiest day of the year
Every year, thousands upon thousands of people from all corners of the globe “mail” their way to the “Sweetheart City” to have their Valentines adorned with a unique inscription and the highly sought-after Loveland postmark.
This re-mailing tradition began nearly 80 years ago and remains the largest of its kind worldwide. Enthusiastic volunteers, clad in Valentine’s-themed attire, come together before the grand occasion to diligently stamp countless envelopes with the special postmark and cachet.
During its peak, these dedicated volunteers processed over 300,000 mail pieces annually. However, with the rise of email and social media messages, this number has dwindled to 100,000 to 125,000.
Remarkably, the program receives mail from every single state in the United States and an impressive 110 countries across the globe.
Also happening today is the 33rd Annual Marry Me & Ski for Free Valentine’s Day Mountaintop Matrimony ceremony and reception at Loveland Ski Resort. It is a Loveland tradition where new couples are joined in matrimony and married couples renew their vows in a mass wedding at 12:00pm sharp in Forest Meadow.
The Mountaintop Matrimony is one of Loveland’s most popular events of the year.
