Red Cross gives three tricks for sleeping during Colorado’s heatwave

Aug 12, 2026, 7:33 AM | Updated: 12:18 pm

Okay, Denver — we love summer, but not like this.

If you’re lying awake at 2 a.m. sweating through your sheets and questioning every life choice that led you to not buying a better AC unit, the Red Cross has some tips that might actually help.

First up: soak your feet in cool water before bed. Sounds simple, right? That’s because it is. It lowers your body temperature and helps you relax. You’re welcome.

Next: throw a pair of socks in the fridge. Yes, really. Pop them on before you hit the pillow. Is it weird? A little. Does it work? Apparently yes. Your kids will absolutely make fun of you. Worth it.

And finally, the TikTok-approved move: run your wrists under cold water for a few minutes before bed. There’s actual science behind it — your pulse points release heat fast — and hey, if teenagers on the internet figured it out, we can let them have this one.

Stay cool out there, Colorado. Drink your water, check on your neighbors, and maybe invest in a fan or twelve.
