This eatery is one of Esquire’s 2024 best new restaurants in the country

Of all the new restaurants across the country this year, a local contemporary Mexican concept eatery is among the best, according to Esquire magazine. They just released it’s list of the Best New Restaurants in America for 2024 on Tuesday, featuring ALMA FONDA FINA, located at 2556 15th St. in the Highland neighborhood of Denver.
Alma Fonda Fina just opened last December, but this is not the first honor it’s been named for-the restaurant already won a Michelin Star in September with the inspector praising their crisped pork belly carnitas, agave-roasted sweet potato and sliced Maine diver scallop.
According to the restaurant’s website, Chef Johnny Curiel began his culinary career at 14 years old on Guadalajara, Mexico as a dishwasher in his father’s restaurant. At age 18, Curiel went on a culinary immersion to Mexico with a simple mission to unearth the heart and soul of his country’s rich and diverse cooking traditions. He was so dedicated to his mission of bringing Mexican excellence to the Denver food scene that he and his wife, Kasie, sold their house top have money to open the restaurant.
