The NFL Draft is here: Why pick #57 just won the lottery (and it has nothing to do with football)

 I don’t follow the NFL draft for all the picks (I mean who has that time) I’m mostly just watching to see who the Denver Broncos choose and get hyped for the season.

But this year, I’m actually paying attention to the 57th pick. And no, it’s not because I’m a scouting prodigy.

Heinz just announced that the player selected at number 57 is getting a lifetime supply of their signature 57 ketchup. They’re officially dubbing this lucky athlete “Mr. 57,” and they’ve roped in legendary return specialist Devin Hester—who was the 57th pick back in 2006—to help present the “honor.”

I have a lot of thoughts here. First off, a “lifetime supply” of ketchup? As a mom who spends half her life scraping red smears off my kitchen chairs, that sounds like either a dream come true or a condiment-induced nightmare. Do they send you a pallet? Do you have to clear out your garage? I’m imagining “Mr. 57” trying to explain to his new teammates why his dorm fridge is 90% Heinz.

Still, as far as draft day perks go, it’s better than a commemorative cap.

The festivities kick off this week, and the 57th pick is slated for Day 2. So, while the football world is busy analyzing draft grades, I’ll be over here wondering if I can get a “lifetime supply” endorsement deal for the amount of ketchup I go through in a single month at my house.
