Ice Castles to return to Colorado in December

Sep 22, 2025, 11:19 AM | Updated: Sep 23, 2025, 10:19 am

The Ice Castles are coming back to Colorado! This year, they’ll be building their magical castles in Silverthorne and Cripple Creek.

If you’ve never been, it is truly amazing. The Ice Castles are made up of caverns, fountains, ice-carved tunnels, super-fun slides, frozen thrones, towers and crawl spaces. Then, at night, they are illuminated with color-changing lights!

Construction begins sometime in late October. It takes a team of about 20 ice artisans over several weeks to create the castles. They actually grow, harvest and hand place the icicles one-by-one!

The Silverthorne Ice Castles will be at the Outlets at Silverthorne, and this will be the third straight year for the location in Cripple Creek. Ice Castles usually open in late December, but it is weather dependent. Tickets go on sale December 2 on their website.

Check out a video from the last time I went to the one in Cripple Creek. I felt like Elsa! See the video here.
