If you’re trying to eat healthier, here’s something worth knowing before your next grocery run.
The Environmental Working Group has released its new “Dirty Dozen” list…the produce with the highest pesticide residue. And yep, this year’s report says 96% of those samples contained pesticides.
This year’s Dirty Dozen includes: spinach, kale, collard and mustard greens, strawberries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, cherries, apples, blackberries, pears, potatoes and blueberries.
On the flip side, the “Clean 15” is the lower-pesticide list, featuring: pineapple, sweet corn, avocados, papaya, onions, sweet peas, asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, watermelon, mangoes, bananas, carrots, mushrooms and kiwi.
The takeaway? Don’t panic, just be smart. If you can, buy organic for the Dirty Dozen. Stick with more of the Clean 15 when it makes sense. Frozen produce can also be a budget-friendly option, and of course, give everything a good wash.
Bottom line: Fruits and veggies are still a win, This just helps you shop a little smarter.
