There was a video tribute celebrating his big accomplishments on and off the court. Then, the Denver Nuggets fans stood and applauded for 55 seconds…you hear right for 55 seconds which was his number.
The late Dikembe Mutombo was remembered by the team in the first quarter of the season opener Thursday night against the Oklahoma City… unfortunately the Nuggets lost the game but the tribute was awesome. The Denver players and coaches showed their respect, too, by wearing T-shirts with a image of the superstars memorable finger wave..remember that?
Mutombo, the basketball Hall of Famer known for his enormous smile and heart, unmistakable voice and, of course, that finger wave, died last month of brain cancer. He will always be remembered as a Nugget star. But a 55 second standing ovation in his memory is fantastic!!
