I have to admit, unless I am at work or in public, I do not use the subtitles, but this would be a good option to make it cleaner and easier to read. Plus, I can trick myself into saying I am reading instead of binging Netflix! Win-win!
Nearly half of all viewing hours on Netflix happen with subtitles or captions on, leading the streaming service to introduce new subtitle options.
The new subtitle options include “English,” which shows only the spoken dialogue, and “English (CC),” which also includes audio cues like [door slams].
The new subtitle choices will be available in all languages Netflix offers and will be offered with all new titles, starting with “YOU” season five.
A Preply survey from August 2024 found that Americans, especially Gen Z and Millennial viewers, use subtitles most of the time, with reasons including muddled audio, hard-to-understand accents and watching quietly at home.
Netflix’s revenue grew by 13 percent in the first quarter of 2025 despite having raised its priced in January.
