“Bye, Drogo (‘Game of Thrones’). Bye, Arthur Curry (‘Aquaman’),” Momoa said in a video posted to his Instagram account as he shaved his beard and threw bits of his facial hair into the wind.

Why did he do it

Momoa said he shaved his beard off to raise awareness about protecting the environment.

“I just want to do this to raise awareness because plastics are killing our planet,” Momoa said in his video.

“It’s time to make a change. A change for the better … for my kids, your kids, the world,” Momoa wrote on Instagram. “Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans, our land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make the switch to infinitely recyclable aluminum.”

The reaction

Momoa’s cleanshaven look took over the internet Thursday, with fans across the world mourning the loss of Momoa’s facial hair.
