High winds cause hundreds of flight delays, long TSA wait times at Denver airport.

There have been 771 reported flight delays at Denver International Airport as of 6 p.m. on Monday, according to FlightAware. Southwest Airlines flights have experienced the most delays, followed by United Airlines, the two largest carriers at DIA.

The delays are primarily due to strong winds, with forecasts predicting speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph on Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern Colorado, including the Denver metro area, due to the windy conditions and low relative humidity from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.

Additionally, Denver International Airport is facing long TSA security lines this Monday morning. At 9 a.m., the wait time at West Security for standard screening exceeded 40 minutes, while TSA PreCheck lines had waits of over 20 minutes.

TSA reported a significant increase in the number of travelers departing from Denver on Monday morning, with an estimated 37,000 passengers expected to be screened between 5 a.m. and noon, which is more than half of the average daily total.

Currently the wait times have decreased but expect them to increase during the heavy flight traffic times this afternoon.
