Going to bed at the same time might be the relationship hack nobody wants to admit works.

A new study from Avocado Green Mattress suggests couples who turn in together tend to have stronger marriages than couples who keep totally different sleep schedules. Yes, it’s that simple — and yes, it’s annoying if you love a “revenge bedtime procrastination” scroll session.

The study also found that going to bed at the same time can improve sleep, especially for younger adults. About 62% of Millennials said they sleep better when they hit the pillow at the same time as their partner. Baby boomers? Not so much. Only 27% said syncing up improves their sleep.

It’s not just about rest, either. The emotional benefits showed up, too. In the survey, 58% of people said they feel closer to their partner when they go to bed at the same time. Not during a big date night. Not over an expensive dinner. Just… brushing your teeth and calling it a day together.

And the happiest couples seem to make it a habit. The study found very happy couples go to bed together at the same time about four nights per week — not every night, not obsessively, but often enough to keep that connection from getting lost between late meetings, TV binges and one more episode that somehow turns into four.

The takeaway: If your schedules are all over the place, your relationship isn’t doomed. But if you’re looking for a small change that could make a real difference, start with the easiest one — meet each other at bedtime. Even a few nights a week.
