Did you know Denver once had a strange law because of this?

History is not always pretty, and at one time, Denver had an ordinance against people who were diseased or maimed. It was sometimes called the Ugly Law. This ordinance punished people who were unsightly or disgusting from exposing themselves to public view. It’s not clear why we had this law in the city between 1884-1886. The law had a penalty of $1, which would be about $31 in 2024.
For the most part, the ordinance stayed the same throughout the time it was on the books. If you were convicted more than once, you would be sent to the county poor house. Did you even know we had one of those in Denver?
