Denver Zoo announces it will soon welcome two southern white rhinos

Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance announced it will be welcoming two southern white rhinos to the facility this fall — marking the first time in the zoo’s 130-year history that the iconic species will call the Denver Zoo home.
The rhinos will arrive from other organizations accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, though zoo officials are keeping the finer details close to the vest for now.

Southern white rhinos aren’t exactly a species you want to take for granted. Once considered one of the most endangered mammals on the planet, southern white rhinos have made a remarkable conservation comeback, with populations rebounding from fewer than 100 individuals in the late 19th century to roughly 20,000 today.
