Counterfeit money is circulating in a Colorado city

Jan 17, 2024, 7:39 AM

Do you know how to spot a fake? These bills seem to be pretty obvious but I would check if you are a cash person.

Counterfeit money is being circulated in the city of Durango, Colorado, with seven reports of fake bills being used so far this year. The majority of the reports have come from businesses in the North Main District.

The counterfeit bills range from $10 to $100 and have markings such as “For Motion Picture Only” and “Prop Use Only.” The city advises businesses to use counterfeit detector pens and to familiarize themselves with security features on genuine currency.

The punishment for counterfeiting money can include up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 at the federal level.

Check that money!
