Coloradans pick name for new Front Range train

Apr 6, 2026, 1:12 PM | Updated: Apr 8, 2026, 11:28 am

Colorado’s new passenger rail line officially has a name, and it’s a fun one! The train that will connect Pueblo to Fort Collins will be called CoCo, short for Colorado Connector.

More than 25,000 Coloradans weighed in through the “Name the Train” contest, choosing from four finalists:

  • FRED – Front Range Express Destinations
  • CoCo – Colorado Connector
  • Colorado Ranger
  • RangeLink

CoCo came out on top — described by the rail district as “a train that brings communities together and makes travel easier, faster and less stressful.” CoCo is expected to begin service in 2029, with funding help from the Regional Transportation District. The route will run along the I-25 corridor with planned stops in Fort Collins, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and several communities in between, with possible future extensions to Wyoming and New Mexico.

The plan calls for 10 to 15 round trips per day. Officials say they don’t have a final price tag yet, but expect a number within the next month or two. Whether you’re commuting, visiting family or just trying to skip the I-25 traffic, CoCo might be your new best friend. All aboard!
