Colorado Zillow listing goes viral because it comes with a woman who won’t leave

Aug 4, 2026, 2:36 PM

House hunters scrolling Zillow for their dream Colorado home probably weren’t expecting this deal: a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house about 25 miles north of Fort Collins, listed at more than $215,000 — OCCUPANT INCLUDED.

The listing, which racked up more than 4 million views after the account ZillowGoneWild shared it on X, warns buyers there will be “NO SHOWINGS and NO PROPERTY ACCESS for inspections or otherwise,” and that the home is “being sold occupied” in its “current, unknown, as-is condition.” Oh, and the listing agent? Never been inside.

The occupant in question is Tori McMechan, a former Nunn town clerk and treasurer who says she has lived in the home since 2006. McMechan’s husband was killed in a 2010 car crash, and she has been fighting to keep the property ever since after it fell into foreclosure that same year. Weld County court records show the loan eventually landed with Deutsche Bank, and McMechan has filed or been party to at least six legal actions over the past 15-plus years trying to block the sale, arguing the mortgage was passed between companies without a clear paper trail.

The Colorado Court of Appeals wasn’t buying it, ruling last year that McMechan’s claims didn’t amount to a legal reason to stop the sale — clearing the way for the listing that broke the internet.

McMechan, for her part, seems perfectly comfortable with the attention — and perfectly comfortable on the couch. “The ad is unreal, right? Who would buy a home sight unseen with an occupant still in it?” she told Cleveland.com. She put it even more bluntly to 9News: “It’s going to be pretty difficult; I’m not leaving willingly. I’m staying. They can come on in, but I’m not leaving.”

So if you’re in the market for a cozy Colorado fixer-upper and don’t mind a roommate with 20 years of squatter’s rights and an iron will, congratulations — your dream home just hit Zillow.
