Colorado Rockies’ Dinger cracks top 10 — and earns ‘most divisive’ tag — in fan ranking of best MLB mascots

Apr 28, 2026, 10:28 AM

He hatched out of a giant egg at Mile High Stadium more than three decades ago, and the Colorado Rockies’ purple triceratops mascot is still stirring up strong feelings.

Dinger landed at No. 7 in a fan-voted ranking of the best mascots in Major League Baseball on Ranker.com, placing him ahead of mascots from bigger-market clubs including the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants. The site also tagged him with a distinction no other mascot on the list received: “Most Divisive.”

More than 1,000 voters have weighed in on the dynamic ranking, which is updated in real time as fans cast ballots. The Phillie Phanatic of the Philadelphia Phillies holds the top spot, followed by Mr. Met of the New York Mets and the Mariner Moose of the Seattle Mariners. The Oriole Bird, Orbit of the Houston Astros and Stomper of the Oakland Athletics round out the top six.

The list is notable for who’s absent. The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels are among the MLB franchises that do not have official mascots.

Dinger’s name is a nod to baseball slang — a “dinger” is a home run, a fitting choice for a mascot who performs at Coors Field, long known as one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the majors.

Now 32 years into his tenure, the purple triceratops continues to appear at Rockies home games, community events and private functions throughout Colorado. Whether fans love him or love to argue about him, the Ranker data suggests Dinger remains one of the most talked-about characters in the sport.

The full Ranker.com top 10:

  1. Phillie Phanatic — Philadelphia Phillies
  2. Mr. Met — New York Mets
  3. Mariner Moose — Seattle Mariners
  4. The Oriole Bird — Baltimore Orioles
  5. Orbit — Houston Astros
  6. Stomper — Oakland Athletics
  7. Dinger — Colorado Rockies
  8. Paws — Detroit Tigers
  9. Ace — Toronto Blue Jays
  10. Lou Seal — San Francisco Giants

Voting is ongoing at Ranker.com. Rankings are dynamic and may shift as additional fans participate.
