BOULDER, CO – SEPTEMBER 13 : Hikers take stone steps with her dog Lina at Anemone loop trail in Boulder Colorado on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks opened Anemone Loop trail just west of town. It climbs Anemone Hill to what they call the Anemone Loop trail. It’s a 3.6-mile hike and climbs 630 feet in elevation. Trail builders flew in tons of rock to build 470 stone steps in some of the steeper sections. (Photo by Hyoung Chang/The Denver Post)

Last week was National Trails Day… and Lawnstarter ranked 2023’s Best Hiking Cities based on factors such as hiking trail access, quality, climate, safety and 15 other key indicators.  Based on that data they listed 3 Colorado cities in the top 50… those being Colorado Springs (#9), Fort Collins (#35) and Denver (#48)

According to the Colorado Tourism office “The best way to define hiking in Colorado is through the numbers: 42 Colorado state parks, 13 national parks and monuments, 13 national forests and grasslands and 58 14ers (peaks that rise more than 14,000 feet above sea level). All of these add up to more than 39,000 miles of Colorado hiking trails (and there’s 17,000-plus of those) waiting to be explored.”
