Denver, CO – Stealing is always a bad idea, but if you’re going to steal and try to get away with it, you should probably have a solid ride planned from the scene of the crime… One Colorado thief didn’t get that memo!

“It may not be the best idea to have an Uber pick you up AT the crime scene,” the Wheat Ridge Police Department posted on Facebook.

Police say they were called to a reported burglary at Blue Sky Plumbing. The business is near I-70 east of Kipling. The person who called 911 said they saw a hole in the fence and had surveillance footage of a man stealing tools

“Our officers got on scene quickly and contacted an Uber driver who was waiting in the area,” police added in the social media post. “The driver said he was picking up a man named Jose at Blue Sky Plumbing, and his passenger was walking to the car.”

Police contacted the suspect, who allegedly provided a fake name. Officers found a backpack with more than $8,600 worth of tools. Police didn’t publicly identify the suspect, but added they are recommending a felony theft charge along with six misdemeanor charges to the District Attorney’s office.
