Chocoholics, try to not panic because of the new chocolate virus…or should we?

Apr 25, 2024, 8:39 AM | Updated: 10:16 am

The New York Post says a devastating disease is affecting cacao trees in West Africa. The Cacao Swollen Shoot Virus is spread by mealybugs.

It is jeopardizing the global chocolate supply because chocolate comes from cacao. The virus causes the trees to swell and shrinks their cacao pods.

This is where more than half of the world’s chocolate originates. It’s so bad that they are actually giving the plants vaccines to kill the disease.

Hurry, hoard all of the chocolate!
