Cherry Creek Reservoir Boat Ramps Are Literally Inches From Closing

If you had a lake day on the calendar this week, you might want to pump the brakes — or at least check the water levels first.
Cherry Creek State Park Reservoir is this close to shutting down both boat ramps. We’re talking three inches of wiggle room, people. The water is sitting at 5,546.22 feet, and closure kicks in at 5,546.0 feet. That’s less margin than my patience at a school drop-off line.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife wants boaters to know a few things before you back that trailer in:
Watch the tape. Colored tape on the dock marks where the concrete ramp ends. Go past it and your trailer could drop off a steep underwater ledge. Hard pass.
Hazards are still out there. CPW filled holes and cleared sandbars, but as water keeps dropping, new surprises keep popping up. Inboard motor folks — the water may be too shallow to even launch.
Big boats, stay home. Seriously. If you need a deeper draft, this is not your week.
Leave no trace. Always. Be a good human.
