Blucifer’s First Rodeo Is the Denver Music Festival South Broadway Has Been Waiting For

259 local acts, 39 venues, and one very good reason to skip driving this weekend

Denver already has a demonic blue horse with glowing red eyes guarding its airport. Now it has a music festival worthy of the name.

Blucifer’s First Rodeo, a brand-new four-day independent music festival, hits South Broadway and the Baker neighborhood July 23-26, 2026 — and if you’ve been feeling like Denver’s DIY music scene needed a proper coming-out party, well, here it is.

Born Out of Necessity, Built on Principle

This one didn’t come from a promoter in a glass office. Blucifer’s First Rodeo was created by local musicians, for local musicians, after Denver’s long-running Underground Music Showcase packed up its South Broadway roots and headed north to the River North Arts District — bringing a shinier, more national-act-friendly version of itself along for the ride.

Look, RiNo is fine. But South Broadway has its own heartbeat, and the people who play those stages every weekend weren’t about to let that just quietly fade out.

The result is a genuinely grassroots, artist-run festival that reads less like a corporate activation and more like the neighborhood throwing itself a block party — a very loud, very genre-diverse, four-day block party.

The Numbers Are Legitimately Staggering

Let’s just get this out of the way: 259 local acts. That’s not a typo.

Spread across 17 independent neighborhood venues and small businesses along Broadway and South Broadway — including beloved staples like Hi-Dive and HQ — plus five DIY venues and, perhaps most charmingly, 17 private house porches and backyards scattered through the Baker neighborhood.

Yeah. Someone’s backyard is a festival venue. That’s extremely Denver and we’re here for it.

Genre-wise, organizers aren’t playing favorites. The lineup spans indie rock, punk, jazz, hip-hop, metal, bluegrass, psych, and cumbia — which is either chaotic or a perfect representation of what actually lives in this city’s music scene, depending on how you look at it. (It’s the latter.)

Why This Actually Matters

The mission here isn’t just vibes. Organizers were deliberate about designing Blucifer’s First Rodeo as a way to keep South Broadway’s local music heritage alive — and more importantly, to connect Denver residents with bands they can actually go see on a random Tuesday night, not just during festival season.

These aren’t acts flying in from Nashville or Brooklyn for a weekend. These are your neighbors. The people you might see at Sputnik after their set. That’s the whole point.

Getting There Without Losing Your Mind

Organizers are being pretty upfront about this one: don’t drive. Neighborhood parking around South Broadway during a four-day festival with 259 acts is going to be exactly as miserable as you’re imagining.

The good news is Denver’s transit options actually work here. RTD Bus Route 0 runs straight to South Broadway, and the light rail (Lines C, E, or T) drops you right at the I-25 & Broadway station, which puts you basically in the middle of everything.

If you’re riding with the Colorado Drivers Cooperative, use the promo code BLUCIFERFEST for $5 off your ride. Support local, etc.
