Artemis II crew breaks record distance from Earth and names new craters

Apr 7, 2026, 1:59 PM

The Artemis II crew officially broke Apollo 13’s previous record of 248,655 miles as its continues on its lunar fly-around mission.

It is expected they will eventually surpass that record by about 4100 miles.

After achieving the record breaking feat, the Artemis II crew had a request that they could name 2 previously undiscovered craters.

The first they wanted to name after the Orion spacecraft which is taking them on this trip, the Integrity.

The 2nd crater they wanted to name Carroll, named after the former spouse of Reid Wiseman, Carroll Taylor who passed away in 2020 following a 5 year battle with cancer.
