Colorado high school students, listen up: Colorado School of Mines just made the college admissions process a little less terrifying. Which, honestly, feels like a public service.
The university announced Thursday that Colorado residents graduating from a Colorado high school will be guaranteed admission to Colorado School of Mines if they meet specific academic requirements.
Even better, those students will also receive a minimum $2,000 per year merit scholarship.
School officials said the program is designed to give Colorado students a clearer path to one of the state’s top universities, especially those hoping to study engineering, science, technology or other STEM fields.
So, yes, there are still requirements. No, you can’t just show up with a backpack and good vibes. But for Colorado students who qualify, this could be a big deal — and a nice financial boost, too.
Mines guaranteed admissions program requirements:
- Academic Standing:
- Unweighted GPA of 3.8+, OR
- Unweighted GPA of 3.6+ paired with a minimum SAT score of 1420 or ACT composite of 32.
- Coursework Rigor & Performance:
- No grades below a “B-” in any math or science course
- Successful completion of pre-calculus or trigonometry (at minimum)
- Completion of three years of lab-based science, including chemistry and/or physics
