Permanent Daylight Saving Time Could Be Coming — Here’s What That Means for Colorado

Jul 16, 2026, 11:43 AM | Updated: 2:39 pm

Good news, Colorado: We may never have to lose that precious hour of sleep again.

The U.S. House passed a bill that would make daylight saving time permanent across the country. That means no more “spring forward, fall back” chaos — and honestly, as a mom who has spent years trying to convince two very dramatic kids that yes, it IS bedtime even though the sun is still up, I have feelings about this.

So What Changes for Us?

If the bill becomes law, Colorado would see later sunsets year-round. Think long summer evenings stretching even further into the night — gorgeous, right? But here’s the trade-off: those dark winter mornings get even darker. We’re talking kids waiting for the school bus in what feels like the middle of the night.

Denver’s winter sunrises could push past 8 a.m. Make sure those little ones have good backpacks with reflectors, mamas.

The Bottom Line

Supporters say permanent daylight saving time is better for our health, economy and overall mood. Critics worry about those pitch-black winter mornings.

The bill still needs Senate approval before anything changes, so don’t throw away your clocks just yet.

But Colorado? There’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel — and it stays on longer now. 🌅
