Free-For-All Fishing at Timnath Reservoir — Colorado Parks and Wildlife Says Go Get ‘Em

Jul 15, 2026, 9:36 AM | Updated: 9:50 am

Attention anglers: Colorado is officially telling you to fish as much as you want. No, this is not a drill.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has temporarily lifted fishing limits at Timnath Reservoir — and there’s a very good reason why.

Water levels at the reservoir are dropping, and officials are expecting a fish kill as a result. Rather than let those fish go to waste, CPW is doing the smart, practical thing — opening it up and letting people catch as many as they can before the water gets too low.

It’s honestly a pretty brilliant move. Very “let’s make the best of a tough situation” energy, and we are HERE for it.

For those not familiar, Timnath Reservoir sits just outside of Fort Collins in Northern Colorado — about an hour north of Denver — and is a popular spot for local fishing enthusiasts.

So if you’ve got a fishing pole, a cooler, and a free afternoon, this is basically your sign. Grab the kids, load up the car, and head north. This is the kind of spontaneous weekend adventure that’s actually educational AND productive.

Trust me, even my girls would agree that unlimited fishing beats another Saturday of staring at TikTok.

CPW hasn’t announced exactly how long the lifted limits will last, so don’t wait on this one.

Check cpw.state.co.us for the latest updates before you head out.
