Welcome to the Year of the Fire Horse: Bold Lunar New Year begins

Feb 17, 2026, 11:44 AM | Updated: 3:57 pm

We’ve officially entered the Lunar New Year, and 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse! If you’ve been feeling like life is about to hit fast-forward, you’re not alone. Fire Horse energy is known for bringing bravery, speed and resilience, with a mix of intensity, passion, urgency and transformation. It’s the kind of year that doesn’t tiptoe in. It arrives with momentum.

In Chinese astrology, the horse is linked to independence, confidence and forward motion. Horses don’t love being boxed in, and during a horse year, a lot of us feel that same push to break routines, take chances and choose freedom. Add the fire element, and things get even more amplified. Fire is bold, expressive and powerful. That can be exciting! But, it can also feel like everything is happening at once.

Themes you may notice in 2026:

Bravery: It’s a strong year for going after what you want. Even if it’s scary.

Speed: Opportunities and changes may come quickly. Staying flexible helps.

Resilience: Not every twist will be easy, but this is a year that rewards perseverance.

Transformation: Fire brings change that can be messy at first, but meaningful over time.

My best “fire horse” advice? Move with the energy, but don’t let it rush you into choices you’ll regret. Confidence is great. Impulsiveness…less so.

Were you born under a fire horse? The fire horse comes around every 60 years. If you’re a fire horse, your birth year is likely: 1906, 1966, 2026 (and yes — that means 2026 babies will be fire horses, too.) Fire horses are often described as spirited, bold and driven — the kind of people who don’t wait for permission to start something new.

I love the idea of 2026 as a year to be a little braver than usual — to say the thing, try the thing, apply for the thing. The fire horse vibe is big, bright energy, and it’s a reminder that you don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.

Here’s to a year with momentum! …and the courage to keep up with it.
