Ice Bucket Challenge is back

Apr 23, 2025, 11:33 AM | Updated: Apr 25, 2025, 11:13 am

If your social media feed is showing people dumping buckets of ice water over their head, no, you didn’t go back in time. The Ice Bucket Challenge is making a comeback! It has been more than a decade since the viral challenge had us throwing ice water over our heads to raise awareness about ALS. The challenge was a huge success, raising more than $115 million for ALS, and it helped to revolutionize research surrounding the condition. This time around, the Ice Bucket Challenge has us focusing on mental health. A University of South Carolina student-run organization called Mental Illness Needs Discussion has launched the the “Speak Your Mind Ice Bucket Challenge.” Participants are encouraged to donate to Active Minds.
