“People are now really leaning into TikTok to search for where to travel, and who to fly with,” said Hannah Bennett, the travel lead in TikTok’s global business solutions team.
Since 2021, TikTok has seen a fivefold increase in views of travel content. 82% of people in the UK said the app inspired them to consider new destinations to visit.
TikTok has become popular with the “destination dupes,” trend where users are interested in a location that’s “not completely off the beaten track, but somewhere that’s a little bit more undiscovered.”
As examples, people choosing to visit Albania instead of Greece or Italy, or the Slovenian capital instead of Prague.
Booking.com, Expedia and airlines are also following the trends and hoping to score on the destination dupes.
