This NEVER Happened on a Date Until…

By Melissa Moore on February 19, 2020

Apparently, I am forgettable.  Let me explain and yes this is another WTHeck dating story.  Why does this happen to me?  I’m really not sure, but they make for good blog stories.  Recently I had a coffee ‘date/meet up’ with a guy that I had met online.  We met for coffee- talked for a little over an hour and parted with a hug.  Seemed like a normal guy with a good job and he was really chatty and shared a lot about his life.  Never heard from him after that- no biggie.  Fast forward a couple of weeks and I left the dating site I had used to meet him and joined a different one.  I see him on this ‘new’ dating site and he sends me a note.  Seems odd since he had my phone number, but okay I’ll reply and see what he has to say.  He asks if I’d like to grab a drink.  I debate, but decide why not – coffee went well.  We set up for the drink via the app chat and agree on when and where to meet.   The day of the meet-up he sends me a message through the site again saying he’s looking forward to seeing me.  Never any mention that we had met just two weeks beforehand, but whatever.

Meeting day and he sends me a note on the website (even though he had my phone# two weeks beforehand) saying he is wearing a red sweater and sitting near the door.  This is when I started to have my doubts about this guy.  I obviously know what he looks like, we’ve met.  Also, it was only two weeks beforehand that we had coffee.  Also, also – I used the same pics on the previous dating site we met on that I used on the new site.  Same pics!  No date and switch – it’s me.  Easy enough to tell.  So maybe he is just socially awkward and I decide I’ll roll with it.  At this point I’m so beyond curious – I’m like Nancy Drew (the new hot one) and I have to figure this guy out.  Drink day arrives and Mr. Red Sweater is inside the restaurant sitting by the door, just as he said he would be.  He stands up when I get there and I give him a hug.  It feels normal, but yet he is looking at me like he’s never seen me before.  WTHeck?

Drink date progresses and you know what?  He tells me all the same things – stories, life history, where he lives and where he bought a place EXACTLY like he did on coffee date #1.  What is going on here?  I look around – I must be getting punked.  Nope.  No cameras crashing my way, just Mr. Red Sweater talking to me like we’ve never met.  I keep thinking that this just can’t be, he must be nervous.  It’s when he asks what I do for a living that I know this isn’t a joke.  I actually tell him what I do (again) and you know what?  He asks surprised and excited like he’s never heard this information beforehand!  I swear it’s like the movie, ’50 First Dates’ with Drew Barrymore.  Mr. Red Sweater is now on his third beer and all I can do is think what in the hell is really happening here.  Drink date over and he walks me to my car.  He then tells me how great this has been and that he hopes we can do this again.  I feel the kiss moment coming and squash that with a big fat hug.  His reply, “Oh –okay then.”  Sorry dude- you don’t even remember me!

I’m driving home and keep thinking did that really just happen?  What in the world would cause someone to totally forget you in two weeks?  I honestly don’t know what to think; drinking issue, drugs or dementia setting in early?  I’m not even kidding or being unkind, I think something must be wrong.  I woke up the next day and it was still bothering me- how could this happen? I honestly have no idea what the deal is, but I know there won’t be a third date with this guy.  If there was next time I’m changing my career to being an astronaut or brain surgeon.  😉

xoxo Melissa
