Denver, CO — Target will be closing nine stores across the U.S. due to revenue loss. Allegedly, theft and other retail crime have made it not only hard for business but also unsafe for customers and employees.
This month, on October 21, Target will close 9 locations in 4 different states. The Targets closing include the East Harlem location in New York City, two locations in Seattle, three locations in Portland, and three locations in San Francisco and Oakland.
In a statement, Target said the closings were a last ditch effort. Meaning they first tried different strategies to help with theft and crime. These strategies included adding more security team members, using third-party guard services, and implementing theft-deterrent tools across the business.
Further, Target said similar things are happening in stores that remain open. Although they couldn’t get ahead of the situations occurring at the locations they’re closing, they will do more in other stores to prevent closings.Specifically, among many investments, Target is looking to implement locking cases for merchandise categories that are prone to theft and partnering with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations.
