Hatch sound machines that were available for purchase at major retailers such as Target, Walmart, BuyBuyBaby, and other nationwide stores are being recalled due to a potential risk of electric shock. The recall, which was announced on Wednesday, affects approximately 919,400 Rest 1st Generation machines, with an additional 44,352 units sold in Canada. Some of these machines were equipped with AC power adapters that could potentially expose both adults and children to electric shock. The defective adapters have a plastic housing that may detach when unplugging the unit, allowing individuals to come into contact with the prongs that directly connect to the electrical outlet.
As of the latest update on Wednesday, there have been a total of 19 consumer reports regarding this issue, including two instances of minor electrical shocks, as stated in a news release by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines, and contact Hatch for a free replacement power adapter,” the release states. “Consumers should unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall.”
If you have a first-generation Hatch, check the adapter. Those under recall have the model number CYAP05 050100U, “1.0A” amps, “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD” and “Made in China” printed in black near the adapter prongs.
