Thousands, if not millions of Verizon customers were very angry Monday morning when their phones went into “SOS Mode” and couldn’t get out. It happened to me. The phone was working fine one moment and the next it had no internet connection and stayed in SOS mode.
I googled what to do. I reset the network settings. I put my phone through every update there was. I turned it on and off…nothing helped it.
I couldn’t make or receive calls and texts and only had an SOS signal. My phone kept asking if I wanted to connect to a satellite and then went to a map showing me a satellite high above Denver. It was so strange.
AT&T and T-Mobile faced similar challenges, with users complaining that they couldn’t access their 5G network and their phone wouldn’t connect to WiFi. But not the problems Verizon customers experienced.
About 6 hours later the SOS problem just went away and 20 messages and voicemails flooded my phone.
Verizon wont say what caused the outage. The FCC is investigating it. Most of the outage was in the mid-west.
