AI is killing jobs in Hollywood. Sony Pictures is being honest and is now going to choose AI over human help to make movies in the future.
Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra, said that Sony is “very focused on AI” and working to adopt the technology into the moviemaking process.
“We are very focused on AI. The biggest problem with making films today is the expense,” Vinciquerra said “We will be looking at ways to…produce both films for theaters and television in a more efficient way, using AI primarily.”
There was an 8 month strike last year between workers and the studios over the use of AI. That contract is set to expire July 31st. Movie studios are working on moving past unions to push the AI technology and new contracts.
AI can replace employees working in Hollywood in every area of making movies, from set designers to actors and even animators.
Last year, DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg said that AI would cut the cost of animated movies by as much as 90 percent. Before AI, a world-class animated films took 500 artists five years to create, he said that it “won’t take 10 percent of that three years from now.”
How do you feel about Hollywood changing? Will there ever be a human movie star after 2030?
