Pets Lower Stress Levels
A study by Washington State University reveals that spending just 10 minutes a day with a cat or dog lowers stress levels.
Researcher Patricia Pendry says, “Just 10 minutes can have a significant impact. Students in our study that interacted with cats and dogs had a significant reduction in cortisol, a major stress hormone. We already knew that students enjoy interacting with animals, and that it helps them experience more positive emotions. What we wanted to learn was whether this exposure would help students reduce their stress in a less subjective way. And it did, which is exciting because the reduction of stress hormones may, over time, have significant benefits for physical and mental health.”
A study by Lyon College in Arkansas reveals that cats have 276 different facial expressions when interacting with one another. Researchers filmed 53 cats at a local cat café and recorded 186 feline interactions to gather data. They found that 45.7% of the expressions were friendly, while 37% were aggressive.
A survey by Blue Buffalo reveals that 40% of cat owners say their feline is more fussy when it comes to eating than their child is.
– 13% of cat owners say their cat has waged a hunger strike because they did not like their new food
– 10% of cat owners say their cat has turned over a bowl because they disliked their new food
– 37% of pet owners have tasted their cat’s food
