AAA reports that projects 50.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Independence Day weekend, setting a new record for the holiday, and it should be a new record for the number of Americans traveling by car for the holiday. AAA expects 43.2 million people will drive to their destinations, an increase of 2.4% over 2022 and 4% higher than 2019.

With that in mind a new survey by Hi-Chew reveals that 66% of people say snacks can make or break a road trip, and 71% of people say road trips give them a hall pass to eat as many snacks as they like.

The best parts of a road trip survey respondents say, are the snacks (38%) followed by the company (34%) and the stops along the way (30%)

Here are top road trip snacks:

Chips – 47%

Chocolate – 47%

Cookies – 44%

Nuts/seeds – 43%

Candy – 42%

Fresh/processed fruit – 40%

Granola bars – 38%

We’re not sure about getting a hall pass to eat what and how much you like, but in moderation everything is ok, right?
