July Fourth travel will be even more expensive in parts of the U.S.
The price of gas will be going up in seven U.S. states thanks to tax hikes going into effect July 1 in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska and Virginia.
Rates will increase by anywhere from .5 to 2.5 cents per gallon.
The state’s road usage fee in Colorado is set to rise from 3 cents per gallon to 4 cents per gallon, as announced by the Colorado Department of Revenue. Furthermore, the environmental fee will see an increase from 0.6 cents per gallon to approximately 1.3 cents per gallon. These adjustments will be in addition to the existing 22-cent gas tax, resulting in a total state tax on gas of around 28 cents per gallon, up from about 26 cents per gallon.
California has the highest state gas tax at 69.8 cents per gallon. Alaska has the lowest at just 9 cents per gallon.
