More bad news for diet soda drinkers.

The World Health Organization has deemed aspartame, the artificial sweetener found in diet sodas a possible carcinogen.

Researchers evaluated 200,000 UK adults and found those that drank more than 2 liters (or 7 twelve ounce cans) of artificial sweeteners per week had a 20% greater risk of an irregular heartbeat known as atrial fibrillation.

A-FIB kills tens of thousands of people in American annually.

Based on these new findings, WHO is recommending reducing if not avoiding aspartame all together.
