This one hit hard today. She was such an amazing actress and had a wonderful career may she RIP.
British actress Maggie Smith, known for her iconic roles in the “Harry Potter” films and “Downton Abbey,” has passed away at the age of 89. Her sons confirmed her death in a statement to the Press Association.
Smith, who won two Academy Awards and numerous other accolades, had a career that spanned over 60 years and included more than 50 films. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1990.
So many movies and so little time to marathon them this weekend. Sister Act was my FAVORITE besides Harry Potter of course!
A statement from her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin said: “It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith.
“She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September.
“An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.”
They thanked “the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days”.
They added: “We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”
