MORGAN FREEMAN INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT Actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident late Sunday night and is in a hospital in Memphis, TN.  Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer said Freeman, 71, is in serious condition.  The hospital is about 90 miles north of the accident scene in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta.  Freeman was driving when the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m.  A passenger, whose name was not released, was also in the car with Freeman.  Freeman’s 1997 Nissan Maxima was heading eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 when the car went off the edge of the road and overturned several times before coming to a stop.  Once emergency crews - using the jaws of life - removed Freeman and the passenger, both were airlifted to the Regional Medical Center. 

MATT LAUER TO CO-HOST OPENING CEREMONIES IN BEIJING NBC has named Matt Lauer to team up with Bob Costas to co-anchor the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Beijing on August 8^th.

Pamela Anderson has banned close-up shots of her face from her new TV show, Girl On the Loose. A source says, "Pamela still looks fantastic but is clearly determined to look as great as possible on the show. BERNIE MAC HOSPITALIZED Bernie Mac was hospitalized in Chicago for pneumonia.  “Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon,” his rep said in a statement.  “He asked that his privacy and that of his family is respected while he gets well.” 

GERRY RAFFERTY VANISHES FROM HOSPITAL Singer Gerry Rafferty has sparked fears for his safety after disappearing from a London hospital, where he was receiving treatment for liver failure.  The 61-year-old “Baker Street” singer, who has been battling alcoholism for five years, was recently admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital to seek help for the booze-related health problem.  But Rafferty has now vanished from his hospital bed - leaving all his personal belongings behind.  A source tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “No one saw him leave or has a clue where he is.”

Justin Timberlake is in talks to host the Academy Awards. The organizers of this year's Oscars made the overture after seeing what a great job he did as host of the ESPY's.

Christina Applegate is battling breast cancer. Her rep says, "Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery."

The NFL is reinstating Brett Favre today. He will make his debut at Packers training camp at 1 p.m.

The Mail on Sunday reports Jake Gyllenhaal plans to marry Reese Witherspoon as soon as he finishes filming Prince of Persia. A source says, "Jake is telling everyone they are getting married at Christmas. He told me he had proposed several times but she kept telling him she wanted to give their relationship more time. When he asked her again a couple of weeks ago, she finally said yes."

TOM CRUISE NAMED IN SCIENTOLOGY LAWSUIT Tom Cruise has been named in a $250 million lawsuit filed against the Church of Scientology by a former member.  The action accuses the faith’s leaders of harassment.  Cruise is an outspoken member of the Church, and is alleged to be second in line to Scientology head David Miscavage.  But his close connections have landed him in the middle of a new legal battle with ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese, who filed papers in Florida on July 15^th.  Letterese, who also names Miscavage and others in the suit, wants the organization to be investigated under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law, which is used to break up Mafia families and drug rings.  He says he was constantly harassed by Church members after he denounced the faith - with one Scientologist even calling the home of Letterese’s lawyer.  When the attorney’s wife answered, the unnamed member claimed he was her husband’s gay lover, according to court papers.  Letterese goes on to allege that Miscavage is “aided and abetted by the actions of Tom Cruise, his right-hand man for foreign and domestic promotion, as well as for foreign and domestic lobbying.   He has assisted the syndicate in acquiring funds and made his own donations of money believed to be in the multiple tens of millions of dollars.”  Cruise’s attorney has yet to respond to the suit.

SPIDER-MAN SPIN-OFF IN THE WORKS Movie bosses are reportedly in negotiations to produce a Spider-Man spin-off film based on the superhero’s arch nemesis Venom.  The villain appeared in the third installment of the comic book action franchise, 2007’s “Spider-Man 3,” and inhabited the body of the photojournalist played by Topher Grace.  The movie will be in addition to the forthcoming “Spider-Man 4” film, which should be in theaters in 2011, according to Empireonline.com.

Patrick Swayze is in talks to do another Dirty Dancing film. A source says, "It's great news that Patrick is so well and there are lots of offers for him. Everyone wants him to star in a 'Dirty Dancing' sequel. It's just a matter of him making his mind up."

One of Britney Spears' friends says the pop tart could care less if John McCain used her in one of his political ads. “She visits gossip sites on the Internet. She’s not exactly glued to campaign news. She’s unfazed by this. If not for Googling her own name she probably wouldn't have noticed.”

Britney Spears is dating one of her bodyguards. A source says his name is Lee and that he used to be a member of the Israeli Army. "He is her perfect type. CARELL & ROGEN RE-TEAMING FOR NEW “GHOSTBUSTERS” MOVIE “The 40 Year Old Virgin” co-stars Steve Carell and Seth Rogen are to re-team for a new Ghostbusters movie, according to reports.  The stars are at the center of a huge new movie rumor, which has been reported by DreadCentral.com.  According to “a reliable source, who cannot be named,” Carell and Rogen will join the original four Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, for a third film.  According to the website, the original GhostBusters stars will hand over their “proton packs” to the new guys.

JOHNNY DEPP AS THE RIDDLER? Johnny Depp is tipped to play Batman villain The Riddler in the next Batman movie.  According to the National Enquirer, studio bosses also want Philip Seymour Hoffman onboard to play the Penguin.  A source tells the tabloid, “Producers are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp.  Johnny’s a pro.  He’ll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own.  And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman.”

SHIA LABEOUF CRASH WRECKAGE APPEARS ON EBAY Wreckage debris purportedly from Shia LaBeouf’s car crash over the weekend is already up for auction on eBay.  The actor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his truck flipped and collided with another vehicle in Hollywood on Sunday.  And an online entrepreneur hopes to cash in on the actor’s misfortune - he says he dashed to the scene of the wreck and salvaged broken glass and plastic pieces from Shia’s truck.  The eBay listing reads, “This is your chance to own a piece of Hollywood History…Own a piece of his shame.  I just happen to live a few blocks from the crash site and collected some leftover souvenirs.”

RYAN SEACREST BIT BY SHARK Ryan Seacrest says he received some unwanted attention during a trip to the beach over the weekend.  “I was bit by a shark,” Ryan said on his KIISM-FM radio show, Us Weekly reported.  Ryan said he decided to go for a swim and waded “about eight feet out” into the water when he felt something swim by.  “I thought it was a stick.  I wasn’t sure what had happened,” recalled Seacrest.  “I saw it swim.  He took a bite, and he left.”  However, the culprit apparently left Ryan with a memento from their encounter - one of its teeth.  “It wasn’t a great thing to find,” he said.  “It was like finding a splinter.”

SHIA LABEOUF BUSTED FOR DUI Actor Shia LaBeouf has reportedly been arrested in Hollywood for driving under the influence after he was involved in a car accident.  The “Indiana Jones:Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” star, 21, is alleged to have collided with another vehicle at around 3 a.m. yesterday.  LaBeouf’s car rolled during the accident.  According to TMZ.com, when officers arrived, LaBeouf was reportedly arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after showing “outward signs” of intoxication.  Paramedics were called to the scene and the actor was taken to a hospital.  Law enforcement sources told TMZ that LaBeouf badly injured his hand and will need surgery.  A passenger in Shia’s car sustained minor head injuries and the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries as well.

The producers of The X Files originally wanted Pamela Anderson to play Agent Dana Scully. Gillian Anderson says she always knew she was Fox’s second choice. MILEY CYRUS OFFERS FANS A DATE FOR CHARITY Miley Cyrus has launched a new charity in honor of her late grandfather - and is auctioning off a date with her to kick-start the fundraising.  The Pappy Cyrus Family Foundation is named after Cyrus’ paternal grandfather Ron, who died in 2006, and aims to help deprived children across the U.S. by providing improved health care, education and community support.  And Miley has taken the first step to raise money for the organization by giving fans the chance to accompany her to the premiere of her upcoming film “Bolt.”  She’s also auctioning off items of clothing from her personal wardrobe.  The sale begins on eBay tonight with bidding closing on July 29^th.

COURT TOSSES $550,000 FINE AGAINST CBS FOR JANET JACKSON’S “WARDROBE MALFUNCTION” A federal appeals court yesterday threw out a $550,000 indecency fine against CBS Corp. for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show that ended with Janet Jackson’s breast-baring wardrobe malfunction.  The three-judge panel of the 3^rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the FCC “acted arbitrarily and capriciously” in issuing the fine for the fleeting image of nudity.  The court found that the FCC deviated from its nearly 30-year practice of fining indecent broadcast programming only when it was so “pervasive as to amount to ‘shock treatment’ for the audience.”

GUY RITCHIE REPORTEDLY DROVE CAR AT MADONNA’S BROTHER Guy Ritchie drove a car at his wife Madonna’s brother Christopher Ciccone, it has been claimed.   Christopher, who is estranged from his famous sister, alleges the British film director once tried to intimidate him by driving dangerously close to him.  In his new book, “Life with My Sister Madonna,” Christopher recalled the incident, saying: “Guy Ritchie turns up in Madonna’s black Mercedes and drives at me.  When he is about a foot from me, he veers the car away, just missing my foot.  I neither flinch nor move from my position.  He stops the car, rolls down the window and says, ‘Are you trying to prove a point?’  I say, ‘No, but I think you must be.’”

Miley Cyrus has been caught up in yet another photo scandal after an internet hacker accessed her phone’s memory and found saucy photos.  The new pics allegedly show Miley posing seductively in the shower with only a wet T-shirt covering her modesty, as well as a photo of her showing off her stomach in a skimpy top.  The photos were reportedly downloaded from the star’s personal picture phone memory by a hacker calling himself the Digital Gangster.  According to blogger Perez Hilton, who has the new photos posted on his website (PerezHilton.com), the hacker is shopping the snaps around to several publications.  Digital Gangster claims to have a host of raunchy snaps he has found on Miley’s phone.

ANGELINA JOLIE GIVES BIRTH Angelina Jolie gave birth to twins (a boy and a girl) Saturday at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France.  “The babies are doing well.  The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told People yesterday.  “Angelina is in very good spirits.  Brad Pitt was at her side.  He was there and all was well.”  Sussman confirmed the Nice Matin newspaper report that Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by C-section on Saturday night.  Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.Darryn Lyons, owner of Big Pictures, a celebrity photo agency in London estimated the twins’ official photos will be worth between $15 million and $20 million.

CELEBRITY LIMO COMPANY SECRETLY TAPES STARS A New York limo company with customers including Britney Spears has admitted secretly videotaping its famous passengers.  Ready to Roll bosses claim the tapes are to prevent passengers running off without paying.  But celebrity customers are upset after they were tipped off by the wife of a driver who was recently fired, reports TMZ.com.  According to TMZ, Kevin Spacey, John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman have also used the company on regular occasions.
